| An optical window is a piece of glass with plane parallel surfaces used to isolate different environments while allowing light to pass through. Optical windows is made with a variety of substrates. The most common substrate is BK7 glass. Other substrates include Fused Silica, Quartz, Sapphire, Calcium Fluoride (CaF2), Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2), Zinc Selenide(Znse) and Germanium(Ge). When purchasing a window, it is important to consider the properties of the material as well as the requirements for size, transmission and the wavelength range in which the window will be used.
